Meet Daniel Turner
Daniel Turner is 41 years old and proudly family-oriented. He is happily married to his wife, Melissa, and together they are raising their three daughters—Ellie, Maddy, and Genevieve—who form the inspiration behind the name GEM.Family plays a central role in how Daniel approaches both life and business.
The values of responsibility, integrity, and care that guide him as a husband and father are the same principles he brings to every project. He understands that a home is more than a structure; it’s a place where families grow, connect, and create memories, and this perspective shapes the way he builds.Running GEM Build is not just a profession for Daniel, but a reflection of his commitment to providing safe, well-built, and lasting homes for other families, with workmanship he is proud to put his name to.

How GEM Build and Design began

GEM Build and Design started the same way many good building businesses do — on the tools. After spending over 20 years working as a carpenter, building homes from the ground up and fixing what others had left behind, starting a company of our own felt like the natural next step.
That hands-on background shapes how we work today. We understand how houses go together, where problems usually start, and what separates a tidy finish from work that lasts. It also means we value doing things properly the first time, rather than rushing through jobs or cutting corners to save time.

How we approach our work
Every build starts with listening. Before plans are drawn or work begins, we take the time to understand what you actually need, how you live in the space, and what matters most to you. That early clarity helps avoid issues later and keeps decisions grounded.
We keep things practical and well organised. Clear scopes, realistic timelines, steady communication, and a site that’s treated with respect. You deal directly with the builder, not passed between salespeople or project managers who have never picked up a tool.
Direct communication
You deal with the builder throughout the job, so questions are answered quickly and decisions stay clear.
Practical planning
Projects are scoped properly from the start to avoid delays, confusion, or unnecessary changes later on.
Respect for your home
Worksites are kept tidy and organised, with care taken to minimise disruption while work is underway.
Who we work with
We work with a wide mix of clients across the Gold Coast, each with different needs but the same expectation: work done properly.

Residential focused
Most of our work is centred around homes, so decisions are made with everyday living in mind, not generic build templates.
Flexible project sizes
From smaller upgrades through to full builds, each job is scoped to suit what you actually need, not pushed into a bigger project than required.
Local knowledge
Working across the Gold Coast means we understand local blocks, council requirements, and how homes here are typically built and used.
People looking to renovate, extend, or rebuild their home and want clear advice without being talked around in circles.
Households that need more space, better layouts, or additional rooms to suit changing needs.
Clients adding value through renovations, granny flats, or upgrades that support long-term use or rental.
Businesses needing practical building work without delays or unnecessary complications.
Those who want help with specific stages of a project, compliance, or construction guidance.
What matters to us
Good building work comes down to habits. Turning up when you say you will. Doing the work properly. Being clear when something needs more thought or time.
We care about planning jobs properly so they run smoothly, keeping communication open so nothing gets lost, and delivering work that feels solid long after the tools are packed away. Shortcuts might save time in the moment, but they always show later — that’s not how we operate.
